A project like the Gaia mission has generated nearly 2 TB of data over 12 years (the equivalent of 250,000 movie DVDs !). The SKAO (Square Kilometer Array Observatory) project will generate the same amount of data in a single day. It is easy to see that it is no longer humanly possible to review all the data, nor to expect to extract all the information from it.
Over the past 30 years, computer programs have made it possible to analyze the data. However, they take a very long time to develop and test (four years elapse between each version of a Gaia mission catalog) and also require prior knowledge of the signal’s form in order to program them. This observation gave rise to one of our AI R&D projects : training an AI specifically for data analysis. Either in real time, to detect signals and reduce the volume of data to be stored, or retrospectively, to perform a detailed and comprehensive analysis.
The result is a considerable time savings and the prospect of discovering new sources…
All AI-related skills will be necessary to develop this type of tool. Keep an eye out for our job postings !
