Three-dimensional measuring machine by probing
A CMM is a system often in the form of a gantry which allows the movement of a probe capable of locating points on a solid. A calculator controls the machine via a computer and processes the measurement results. These results are then displayed on the computer screen or on a printer.

Non-contact three-dimensional measuring machine
The operating principle of contactless measurement is substantially the same as that of measurement with a probe, with the difference that the latter is replaced by a high-resolution CCD camera (with a photosensitive matrix), there is therefore no contact between the the element to be measured and the measuring element. Measurements are carried out on the computer screen by simple mouse clicks. This measurement technique is particularly well suited to micro-parts or micro-shapes.
